Value of Peer Mentoring
Mentors
- Grow leadership, teaching, and communication skills as you help guide a student through their first year at Foster
- Gain a valuable experience to include on your resume and share during interviews
Mentees
- Build a valuable relationship with an experienced student in the Foster community
- Have a resource for questions and guidance as you navigate your first year at Foster
Mentors/Mentees
- Become part of abroader community within Foster
- Learn more about mentorship
- Gain new perspectives and create genuine relationshipswith other students at Foster
The Mechanics

- Mentors and mentees are matched on a 1:1 ratio
- Eligibility
- Mentees: Freshman direct, first year transfer students
- Mentors: Sophomores, juniors, and seniors in Foster
Timeline/Key Dates
- January 6th: Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Kickoff!
- Schedule
- Mentors: 5:30-7:30pm (includes training)
- Mentees: 6:30-7:30pm
- Meet your mentor/mentee while enjoying dessert!
- Discuss and create goals
- Schedule
- January-April
- Mentor/mentee meet at least 3 times
- Evaluate goals
- Attend at least 1 Foster event together
- April 26th: Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Wrap-Up Lunch
- Lunch provided from 12:30-1:20pm
- Final meeting & closing evaluations
Expectations
- Four-month commitment from Jan 2022 to April 2022
- Monthly communication
- A minimum of three virtual/in-person meetings
- Mentees take initiative in scheduling meetings
- Timely and professional communication
- Arrive prepared for meetings
- Prompts and discussion questions will be provided
- Have an agenda, come prepared with questions and/or topics for discussion, prior research
- HAVE FUN!!
